The parallel session of the 7th Hongqiao International Economic Forum (HQF)—Pudong and the World: High-Standard Institutional Opening-up For New Development Opportunities took place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) on November 6, 2024.
During the Forum, President and CEO of Siemens Energy AG Dr. Christian Bruch shared his perspective on the future development of Pudong and Shanghai.
This year, Shanghai experienced an extremely hot summer. There were 52 days with temperatures over 35°C, breaking local records. According to the China Meteorological Administration, this August was the hottest in China since 1961.
However, this is not unique to Shanghai and China; it is happening worldwide. Recent European studies show that this past August was also one of the hottest on record globally.
Bruch pointed out, “climate change is gathering pace, and we will face more climate crises in the future. This is why driving energy transition and ensuring energy security are critical challenges for humanity today. ”
How to promote energy transition? Bruch said, as one of the biggest countries in the world, China must play a crucial role in the global energy transition. “Global energy transition will be tough without China. At the same time, I am convinced that we need strong local capabilities in different regions of the world. ”
On the way to energy transition and green development, Shanghai is a role model of advancing green and low-carbon energy. The city is speeding up future energy development. And it is building a modern, safe, clean, efficient, and sustainable energy system to support its growth as a megacity.
Bruch considered this journey will bring new development opportunities. “For Shanghai to achieve high-quality growth, it must build a new energy system to support rapid development and incubate innovative technologies. New technologies Siemens Energy can offer. ”
Bruch also emphasized, “Siemens Energy will continue working with partners in China to accelerate green and low-carbon energy technologies from lab to market. We support building Shanghai’s new energy system and a modern industrial system through technological innovation. ”
